Start with the flight, not the airport label
Put the flights you could actually take side by side: dates, arrival airport, departure time, baggage allowance and change conditions. Then add the onward journey at the other end. A cheaper flight is not necessarily a cheaper trip if it creates another overnight stay or an awkward transfer. Equally, a flight from Charleroi may be the sensible choice when its destination and timing suit your plans. Do not assume that the two airports offer interchangeable flights. Check the operating airline and the airport code at checkout, not only a search engine’s city heading. Keep the booking confirmation available when arranging your pickup.
Compare the whole ground connection
BRU has a railway station beneath its terminal. CRL requires a ground connection beyond the train; Charleroi-Central station is not the airport. This difference matters when you carry several bags, accompany children or need assistance. For either airport, run a journey search for your travel date and required arrival time, starting from your home or hotel rather than a convenient city-centre station. Include the walk to the first stop and any change between vehicles. Rail can be a straightforward choice when the connection fits. A private transfer can remove those changes, but remains subject to road conditions and confirmed availability.
Compare costs for the same party and itinerary
Make a simple comparison with identical assumptions: everyone travelling, all luggage, the same departure address and the same airport. For public transport, check the current tickets and any airport supplement or connecting bus ticket that applies. For a private car, request a quote for the complete party in a suitable vehicle. Do not compare one passenger’s rail ticket with a whole vehicle’s fare, or divide a car price before checking capacity. Include the return journey separately if it uses another airport or address. Our prices page provides reference journeys; the calculator gives the quote for the details you enter, not a universal airport rate.
Work backwards from the airport requirements
Start with the airline’s check-in, bag-drop and boarding requirements, then decide when you need to be inside the correct terminal. Work backwards through transport, changes and the time needed to leave your accommodation. A driving estimate is not the time from your front door to the gate. Check early departures and late returns independently: a useful daytime connection does not prove that a service runs at your hour. If your itinerary changes airports, treat the move as a separate journey with luggage collection and new departure procedures where required. Never assume that independently purchased tickets provide a protected connection; ask the sellers what their terms actually cover.
Turn the comparison into a clear transport plan
Once the flight is chosen, write down its airport code, date and number alongside the pickup address. Add the group size, luggage needs and any child-seat request before selecting a vehicle. For an address in Brussels, compare a quote to BRU with a quote to CRL only while both flight options remain relevant; after booking, keep the actual airport fixed. Check every field again on the journey summary. If you are booking for somebody else, send them the pickup details and contact number as well as the flight ticket. Clear shared instructions are more useful than a generic promise that either airport is easy.

Frequently asked questions
Are BRU and CRL two terminals of the same airport?+
No. They identify separate airports. Read the code on the flight confirmation before choosing a transport destination. Brussels-Midi is a railway station, not a third airport or a terminal at either location.
Is the cheapest flight always the cheapest journey?+
Not necessarily. Compare the complete party’s transport, baggage choices and any extra accommodation, using actual quotes and current ticket conditions. Give the time and effort of changes a place in the decision as well, without treating them as a fixed surcharge.
My return uses another airport. Can I copy the outward booking?+
Use a separate, checked itinerary. Confirm the arrival airport, date, destination address and party details before requesting that journey. Do not reverse the outward addresses automatically: the new flight may require a completely different pickup plan.
